Oregon Credit Union Leaders, GoWest, Report Excellent Roundtable with Rep. Andrea Salinas

On Monday, Dec. 18, over 20 Oregon credit union leaders came together in Wilsonville for a roundtable discussion with Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-6), where we had the opportunity to highlight the work being done by credit unions to serve the needs of Oregon families and communities, especially those facing challenges with economic struggles during these times of high inflation.

We greatly appreciated the leadership of Seth Schaefer of Rivermark Community CU, Rob Stuart of OnPoint Community CU, and Jason Werts of Advantis CU, who acted as the co-hosts for our roundtable. They were joined by an impressive group of Oregon credit union representatives, and several members of the GoWest Credit Union Association team.

Oregon credit unions had the pleasure of spending over an hour with Congresswoman Salinas discussing issues from serving the underserved and efforts to bolster affordable housing options. Credit union leaders discussed our concerns around the Credit Card Competition Act, and the need to look for ways to update the Federal Credit Union Act, including the need to increase the MBL Cap and loan maturity limits. The Congresswoman provided an overview of the current landscape in Congress and what we are likely to expect from the 2nd Session of the 118th Congress in 2024.

Finally, Rep. Salinas provided attendees with an overview of her current re-election campaign, her likely opponents, and strategies to return to Congress, following the 2024 election.  It was a very productive conversation and an opportunity to continue to strengthen her knowledge and commitment to credit unions. The Congresswoman was very appreciative of the opportunity to connect with Oregon credit union leaders and encouraged the group to stay closely involved in advocacy, and to continue support Oregonians and their families.

We greatly appreciated the attendance and support of all of the attendees who joined us for this important event, earlier in the week, and we look forward to seeing you all at our next Oregon advocacy event!
