Milestones

From the beginning, GoWest has been committed to fostering cooperation, collaboration and future-focused advocacy. The power behind GoWest is the thousands of credit union professionals who work together every day to create brighter futures for their members. Credit unions can be proud of the achievements and advancements made toward those goals the past two years.

Here are some highlights of what we have achieved together:

  • Nearly 300 credit unions in the GoWest region, with a combined $230 billion in assets, serve 17.4 million members and employ 35,000 dedicated professionals.
  • Executed robust, hyper-local state advocacy resulting in successful passage of pro credit-union legislation in all six states, including Credit Union Act modernizations, financial education requirements, and business efficiencies including electronic titling.
  • Led and influenced credit union priorities at the federal level, protecting against threats, gaining support on credit union priorities, and laying the groundwork for 2025 legislation to modernize the Federal Credit Union Act.
  • Delivered on those wins through new grassroots advocacy programs for credit unions, targeted engagement and influence in campaigns and elections, and in-person events with expansive credit union representation. More than 2,000 advocates engaged with their legislators at Days at the Capitol and National Governmental Affairs Conference events.
  • Brought together nearly 1,900 credit union professionals to network, receive unique, high-level content, uncover the latest trends and topics, and celebrate our collective impact at MAXX events.
  • Together, credit unions secured more than $2.3 million in donations for the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals at MAXX CU4Kids Auctions.
  • Convened credit union executives to vet emerging fintech solutions like Sparrow for student lending and WithClutch for digital account opening to grow partnerships that drive industry innovation forward.
  • Operational staff of credit unions powered the collective brain trust with 4,165 registrations across 40 council meetings.
  • 205 professionals grew their leadership muscle in leadership development programs.
  • 777 credit union professionals brought their voice and leadership insights to GoWest committees and advisory groups.
  • More than 30,000 touchpoints across the suite of GoWest compliance resources including 3,375 individual questions answered by the GoWest Compliance team.

In addition, the GoWest Foundation in partnership with credit unions:

  • Secured a $9 million grant to enable credit unions to serve as lenders through the Washington Credit Building Pilot Program, serving small businesses and entrepreneurs furthest from opportunity with access to capital and credit building.
  • Facilitated collaboration among credit unions to pilot innovative programs such as a branded workforce housing mortgage product for Tucson-area credit unions.
  • Awarded planning and implementation grants to fuel the launch of products and projects that support workforce housing, rural access to financial services, and small business owners and entrepreneurs across our region.
  • Provided professional development scholarships to credit union staff and volunteers.
  • Granted financial education reality fair kits to credit unions resulting in 186 experiential learning events for 17,228 students.

Together, we will continue to make positive impacts in our communities while advancing the Credit Union Movement!
