NuVista Federal Credit Union Creates the DREAM Share Certificate To Help Kids Reach Their Dreams

Colo.-based NuVista Federal Credit Union recently announced a new savings product, the DREAM Share Certificate for kids ages 17 and under. This unique product offers financial coaching, incentives from NuVista in the form of deposits for financial education, and a step-by-step plan to help kids turn their DREAMs into reality.

The DREAM Access account is a 12-month Share Certificate that allows for and encourages additional deposits throughout the term and comes with a premium interest rate.

“Our DREAM product is more than just walking into a branch and opening a 12-month certificate; it’s an experience,” explained NuVista CEO, BJ Coram. “When a child and their parent or guardian open a DREAM share certificate, they will be coached by a NuVista team member. Together, they will identify their DREAM, make sure the DREAM is achievable, and then create a detailed plan to turn that DREAM into reality in 12 months. It’s a fun process and kids and their parents learn a lot.”

During the step-by-step process coaching, kids will learn about dividend payments, the “Magic” of compounding interest, and basic budgeting. They will also identify potential sources of income, as well as detail how and when they will make deposits. And, throughout the 12-month plan, the child and their parents/guardians can choose to have “check-ins” from NuVista to see how the plan is progressing.

Another unique component of the DREAM experience involves financial education. DREAM share certificate holders can participate in online and in-person financial education classes to grow their balance with “Learn & Earn” deposits. NuVista will deposit $25 for each online class they complete and $50 for attending an in-person class into the DREAM share certificate. NuVista will give a maximum of $150 in “Learn & Earn” deposits during the 12-month term. The “Learn & Earn” component is currently best suited for kids ages 12-17.

Online education takes place through our online Financial Wellness Center. Members can create an account at no charge and have access to DREAM learning modules that have been put together by our Financial Literacy Specialist. Modules, available in English and Spanish, take approximately 30 minutes to complete and include a short quiz. In-person classes will be taught by NuVista’s Financial Literacy Specialist. The free class series, called Money Matters, will focus on subjects like: The Art of Decision Making: Strategies for Smart Choices; The Psychology of Money; budgeting; building credit; and more.

There is a $100 deposit minimum to open a DREAM share certificate, and youth must also have a minimum of $5 in a NuVista Share account. To learn more about the new DREAM Share Certificate, visit www.nuvista.org.
