Happening at GAC: Honoring the Fundraising that Helps Elect Champions

Nearly 400 credit union advocates from across the GoWest region are having a busy week in Washington. They’re telling the credit union story to Members of the 119th Congress, many of whom are new to federal office and need as much information as possible about how their constituents back home are being served by local, not-for-profit, cooperative credit unions.

There is no question these face-to-face meetings during the annual National Governmental Affairs Conference help convince congress to support credit union priorities. It’s also true that advocates’ efforts to elect candidates who support credit union priorities is critical. That work is supported by credit union employees’ contributions to the America’s Credit Union Political Action Committee – and credit unions from the GoWest states have been among the nation’s strongest contributors.

This week ACU recognized the top fundraising CUs. Shout outs to Oregon State Credit Union for raising more funds than any other credit union in the above $700 million asset category, and to Lewis-Clark CU for leading fundraising in the under $250 million asset category. Those honors, the Pinnacle Awards, were presented Tuesday evening.

We are also proud that the GoWest team received the PAC Chair’s award. Chris Kemm, AVP, Political Engagement, leads our collaboration with member credit unions who engage in the payroll deductions program.

The PAC also recognized the top credit union in each state with Circle of Excellence Awards. Honorees include:

  • TruWest CU in Tempe, AZ
  • Ent CU, Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Lewis Clark CU, Lewiston, Idaho
  • Oregon State Credit Union, Corvallis, Oregon
  • Spokane Teachers Credit Union, Liberty Lake, WA
  • Meridian Trust FCU, Cheyenne, WY

GoWest is grateful to credit union advocates for engaging in the ACU PAC!
