Idaho Legislators Convene for Organizational Session

As the 2025 legislative session approaches, Idaho’s legislators convened in Boise for their biennial organizational session, held every two years following a general election. During this session, legislators are sworn in, and both Republicans and Democrats officially elect their leadership teams.

In the recent leadership races, State Senator Kelly Anthon was elected as the new Senate Majority Leader, succeeding Chuck Winder. Additionally Representative Mike Moyle was reelected as Speaker of the House.

Once seated, the Speaker of the House appoints committee chairs and vice-chairs for the House, while the President Pro-Tempore does the same for the Senate. After the committee chairs are selected, leadership collaborates with them to populate each committee.

The GoWest Credit Union Association is particularly interested in the House Business Committee and the Senate Commerce Committee. While the House Business Committee saw little change in personnel, the Senate Commerce Committee experienced significant changes, including a new chairman and several new members. These committees are crucial for the Idaho Credit Union Act, as any amendments to the Act must go through them.
