Big Changes in Cowboy State

Most Wyoming’s legislative seats were decided during yesterday’s primary. A lot of changes will occur in the Wyoming House and a few notable changes in the Senate. Full election results are available on the Secretary of State’s website.

Of the 23 candidates supported by the Wyoming Credit Union Political Action Committee (WYCUPAC) 12 won their primary race and 11 lost their race.

Kim Withers, WYCUPAC’s priority candidate fell short in Senate District 6 where a crowded field of six candidates split the vote. Trump-endorsed candidate Darin Smith won the race with 1,779 votes.

Of the 15 Senate seats that were up for election, three will be decided in the general of the 62 House seats, 11 will be decided in the general. Unless independent candidate petitions are successful, 12 senate and 51 house seats will face no challengers in the general.

The Senate will see five new members. The number of new house members currently sits at 22 with more turnover possible in the general election on November 5.  Reports indicate the Freedom Caucus stands to gain 11 seats in the House if candidates win their seats. This undoubtedly will result in significant leadership and committee chair changes.
