Building legislative relationships across Wyoming

The importance of one-on-one legislative relationships between credit union advocates and Wyoming legislators cannot be overstated. With a citizens legislature that convenes once per year for 20 days in even numbered years and 37 in odd, having in-depth conversations is nearly impossible during the session. Citizen legislators have other employment and and are not full time legislators nor do they have staff members. The focus this late summer and fall for Wyoming credit union advocacy is to meet with local legislators and establish important relationships. On August 11 CEO’s Dave Krause, UniWyo FCU and Tyler Valentine, StagePoint FCU and Bobbie Frank, GoWest VP of Legislative Affairs met with Representative Trey Sherwood in Laramie. On August 18 Bill Willingham and Matt Ballou, WyHy FCU, Kim Withers, Meridian Trust  and Lachelle Teasley, Western Vista FCU along with the GoWest team met with Senator Tara Nethercott. Rebecca Thoe-Heuer and Michele Bolkovatz, Blue FCU and Ann Riney, Western Vista met with Chairman Landon Brown to discuss priority. Stay tuned for additional meetings that are being scheduled across the state going into the fall.
