Fibre Federal & TLC Help Address Food Insecurity in Local Communities

At a recent all-staff event, Fibre Federal Credit Union & TLC employees assembled 350 bags filled with snacks for local food pantries throughout the credit union’s service area in Southwest Washington and the Oregon Coast. Staff members decorated the bags and included handwritten cards with uplifting notes for the recipients, and after the event concluded, many employees continued their efforts by volunteering additional time to assemble an additional 50 bags.

Although this project was planned well before the Nov. 1 pause in SNAP benefits caused by the federal government shutdown, the timing ultimately deepened its impact. As the situation evolved, credit union leaders recognized an even greater need among community members and took further action. Fibre Federal & TLC distributed $25,000 in donations, divided among the food pantries receiving the bags, equating to 75,000 pounds of food that provide 62,500 meals to neighbors in need.

Across the credit union’s service area, more than 40% of households experience financial hardship, either living in poverty or classified as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). These are families who are working yet still struggle to afford essential needs such as housing, childcare, food, and transportation. Supporting these individuals and families is closely aligned with Fibre Federal & TLC’s Core Value of Betterment and its Giving Pillars of Health & Well-Being and Youth.
