Senator Drazen Running for Governor
Posted by Pam Leavitt on October 29, 2025
Christine Drazan, a Republican from Canby and the former House Minority Leader, has officially announced that she is running for Governor of Oregon in the 2026 election. She made her announcement at an event in Portland on October 27, 2025, after recently being appointed to the Oregon Senate. This marks her second bid for the office, following her narrow loss to Democrat Tina Kotek in the 2022 governor’s race. Drazan’s campaign emphasizes cutting taxes, improving public safety, addressing homelessness, and promoting economic growth.
Her entry sets up a likely rematch with incumbent Governor Tina Kotek, who is also expected to seek reelection. Drazan has already consolidated significant support within the Republican Party and is considered a frontrunner for the 2026 Republican gubernatorial nomination, although she will face competition in the GOP primary
Just days before the announcement, Drazan was appointed to the Oregon Senate on October 23, 2025, to fill the seat vacated by former Republican State Senator Daniel Bonham, who resigned earlier in October 2025. The appointment was made by county commissioners from Clackamas, Hood River, Multnomah, and Wasco counties during a joint meeting.
Then Representative Drazen and now Senator Drazen met with the Oregon Governmental Affairs Committee on Tuesday, October 14th to discuss moving Oregon business forward in the state, along with a discussion on the state’s budget and state regulation.
