Lisa is a leading voice in financial justice and a respected academic whose work sheds light on the financial challenges many Americans face today. She is the Kevin and Erica Penn Presidential Professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania and leads the Filene Research Institute’s Center of Excellence for Consumer Financial Lives in Transition, a four-year initiative aimed at helping credit unions better support consumers navigating economic instability and financial uncertainty.
As the acclaimed author of The Unbanking of America: How the New Middle Class Survives, Lisa brings deep insight into the lives of underbanked and underserved individuals. Her research offers a powerful case for the role credit unions can play in creating a more inclusive and responsive financial system.
During Lisa’s mainstage keynote, “Break the Mold: Reinventing Member Service in the Credit Union Movement,” she will challenge attendees to rethink financial services, explore how credit unions can lead with trust and innovation, and herald a meaningful call to action: How can we serve better — and who might we be leaving behind?
