Financial Education Bill Passed by Washington House

Washington State Representatives took another step toward making financial education a high school graduation requirement by passing HB 1285 by a 94-3 margin during a vote late last night in the full chamber. The bipartisan bill, sponsored by both Rep. Skyler Rude, R-Walla Walla, and Rep. Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver, is similar to a bill passed last year, which failed to clear the Senate.
The legislation was one of the priorities that credit union advocates shared support for when meeting with lawmakers at last month’s Day at the Capitol.
The bill now moves to the Senate and Washington Credit Union advocates will have opportunities to share support with the Senate Education Committee in the coming weeks as we work to move this across the finish line.
