U.S. House Starts the Week Passing Credit Union Board Modernization Act

The 119th Congress has some challenging and pretty momentous policy hills to climb in the weeks and months ahead, but they took a step to provide regulatory relief for the credit union movement today. H.R. 975, the Credit Union Board Modernization Bill, was passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives, by a unanimous voice vote, earlier this afternoon.
As you are likely aware, this legislation provides a very simple change to allow credit union Boards of Directors to meet a minimum of six times per year, rather than the monthly or 12 times a year that is currently required in the Federal Credit Union Act.
The House passed a similar bill at the beginning of the 118th Congress; however, our advocacy efforts ran out of time to get the legislation across the finish line in the Senate before the close out of the last Congress. We are hopeful that with a new Senate Banking Chairman and majority in the U.S. Senate, this bi-partisan support this, non-controversial bill will be finalized and head to the President’s desk for his signature., in this Congress.
The GoWest Advocacy Team will keep you apprised of additional discussions around regulatory relief and Federal Credit Union Act modernization efforts as we lead up to the National Governmental Affairs Conference in March, GAC, and beyond.
