Opening Day in Oregon Capitol

On Monday, Jan. 13, Governor Tina Kotek delivered her “State of the State” address focusing on her vision for 2025.  She addressed several key issues including homelessness and housing, mental health and addiction care, education, and climate resilience.  She stated in her remarks, “This new year, 2025, carries a clear charge for all of us: to summon our unyielding spirit of resilience, to tackle problems with purpose, and to embrace opportunities for change together. Oregon’s ability to move ahead is grounded in the soil from which we have grown – together.”

The House and Senate Republicans quickly responded, “Governor Kotek’s speech today was uninspiring, lacked a compelling vision, and demonstrated an inability to tackle the challenges Oregonians elected her to solve. Oregonians shouldn’t settle for the status quo, and today we heard a governor whose approach to leadership is managing mediocrity without any measurable outcomes.”

Also on Monday, Oregon Legislators were sworn in and are spending the week in training.  The work of the Oregon Legislature officially begins on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when committee hearings will begin.

We anticipate a very busy legislative session for credit unions, and we hope you and your team are planning to attend Credit Union Day at the Capitol on Feb. 5.  You can find registration information HERE.
