AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Program – Increase Under Treasure Yee’s Oversight
Posted by Brooke Parent on December 6, 2024

529 Plans have been available in Arizona for the last 25 years, allowing parents to invest in their child’s future education. For the first 20 years, most families did not have the information or resources to learn about AZ529 Plans as a governmental commission office administered them.
In 2020, Governor Ducey signed S.B. 1528, transferring the AZ529 Plan to be administered by the Arizona State Treasurer’s office. One of Treasurer Yee’s first actions after this transfer was to change the name from “AZ529, Arizona Family College Savings Program” to “AZ529, Arizona’s Education Savings Program” to reflect the plan’s programs. Resources have also been expanded to include Spanish and Navajo languages under Treasurer Yee.
In a recent Financial Literacy Task Force meeting which GoWest participated in on behalf of Arizona’s Credit Unions, Treasurer Yee provided an incredible update on the AZ529 Plan. In the last 49 months, over 47,500 new accounts have opened with $2.4 Billion in assets. The AZ529 plan also received a Morningstar Silver Medal for the second year.
Treasurer Yee continues to educate and expand outreach across the state to ensure families have all the information they need for investing in their children’s future.
