Mainstage Quotables
The theme for Monday was, “Together, We Can Summit Life’s Highest Peaks,” and the ways credit unions are helping members do that kept showing up on the mainstage. Here’s what we heard:
“What stands out…is just how much collaboration is being done amongst you, to focus on solving the needs of your community and your markets. Credit unions are not in business to make profits. Their purpose is to deliver solutions like giving people the ability to buy homes, or offering microlending solutions.”
Troy Stang, President and CEO, GoWest Credit Union Association.
“Our rural communities are intertwined. And that’s where credit unions play a crucial role. Credit unions provide crucial access to capital. They are more than financial institutions. They are pillars of support that understand our needs and invest in our futures.”
Rudy Soto, Deputy Assistant Secretary, USDA Office of External and Intergovernmental Affairs. (Soto urges CUs to reach out to their state USDA offices for rural services partnership opportunities)
“Every one of you has a story about how your credit union is going above and beyond for a member. Sharing that narrative in our advocacy efforts is more essential than ever.”
Jennifer Wagner, Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer, GoWest Credit Union Association
“This focus of helping hard-working Americans, is not new for credit unions. You don’t need to be told to serve the needs of low to moderate income communities. The ‘People Helping People’ commitment is your mantra.”
Sharee Adkins, Chief Impact Officer and Executive Director, GoWest Foundation
