Colorado Advocacy: C3 Basecamp Trip to Fort Collins and Loveland
August 2, 2024

Credit union summer advocacy took an important field trip in Colorado this week. Katie March, GoWest’s VP, Legislative Affairs for Colorado, went on a tour of Fort Collins and Loveland, Colo., with legislators and business leaders from across the state. She was joined by credit union advocates who have a presence in the area including Jacob Phillips from Canvas CU, Darin Atteberry from Elevations CU, and Joseph Hite from Ent CU.
The tour included a visit to the incredible Canvas Credit Union Stadium at Colorado State University, where Jacob gave a short presentation about Canvas’ partnership with the university, the important community connection that they have, and how they support students at CSU. He highlighted credit unions’ unique structure, value, and impact. Basecamp attendees also toured the facilities and met CSU Football Coach Jay Norvell.
After a great tour of Downtown Fort Collins, an affordable housing location, and a quick meet-up with the Fort Collins police chief, the group went to the Rio for dinner where Atteberry joined with many legislators and local elected officials to socialize and share in some great advocacy conversations. It was a great end to the day of touring that Rep. Andy Boesenecker attended to highlight his district.
The next day, despite battling terrible smoke from the multiple wildfires burning in Colorado, the Basecamp Tour went to Loveland and Rep. Ron Weinberg’s district. They were wowed by an innovation location called “The Forge,” the local police training ground, and a great lunch at Rep. Weinberg’s home where Joseph Hite and Katie March were able to have some great conversations with legislators to round out the trip.
“C3 Basecamp tours are a great opportunity to meet with legislators and tour the businesses and industries in their communities that power their district’s economies,” said March. “As a part of the Colorado Competitive Council, GoWest will have more opportunities to tour different parts of the state and will reach out to credit unions in these communities to join.” Many thanks to the advocates who joined us this week.
