Calling Colorado Advocates: Support These Senate Candidates in the Primary
Posted by Katie March on May 30, 2024
Electing candidates that understand and support credit union priorities helps the advocacy mission. Please help support Credit Union Champions in the primary. Below, we are listing the top three races and how you can help. Due to the short turnaround time before the June 25 election and tight schedules, we are sharing links where you can send donations, instead of planning credit union-specific fundraisers. All three candidates have had ample face time with credit unions in their districts and with the GoWest team, and know the issues that we care about well. Please consider supporting all three candidates by giving what you can, with the maximum per cycle donation being $450 each. You could choose to support all three or just one or two — they are listed in my recommended order of importance.
Support for Judy Amabile (Boulder)
Our #1 most important target for credit unions in the primary. Judy has been our biggest champion this year and is running for the State Senate in a very competitive primary. As the bill sponsor for our most controversial legislation, Judy worked hard to convince her colleagues, leadership, and the Governor’s office to support credit unions and fight the banks.
- Donate to Judy Amabile here – she is our most important legislative candidate to donate to in the primary this year.

- GoWest is going to go and knock doors for Judy on Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 AM in Boulder. Please send me, [email protected] an email if you would like to join for even an hour. It is a lot of fun, you can walk with us, and it’s a great way to get your steps in. If that day doesn’t work for you, but you would be willing to knock doors another time, send me an email and we can set up another time that works for your schedule.
Support for Lindsey Daugherty (Arvada)
Lindsey stuck with credit unions on every single vote during the 2024 session and helped to encourage her colleagues to support our legislation. She is running for the State Senate in a competitive primary and needs our help to make it across the finish line.

- I am going to knock doors for Lindsey on Sunday, June 9th at 10:0 AM in Arvada. Please send me an email if you would like to join me or let me know if you would like to join another time.
Support for Michael Carter (Aurora)
Michael is a lawyer, veteran, and school board members and a big supporter of credit unions. His values align with ours and he will be a credit union advocate at the Capitol. He is in a competitive House primary.

A Final Update
Finally, we want to let you know about the creation of a new entity called “Credit Unions for Colorado Communities” Independent Expenditure Committee. We have created this new committee in order to comply with Colorado election law, so that credit unions can help support our champion legislators in state elections. We will have further discussions with our Governmental Affairs Committee about this entity and why it is needed at our next regularly scheduled meeting. But if anyone has any questions or would like to learn more, please feel free to reach out to me to discuss.
