2023 HMDA Data Released

Recently, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data has been closely scrutinized in the public eye, with various stories emerging that often misrepresent the practices of credit unions. Given the significance of HMDA in current discussions, we want to ensure that your credit union is well-prepared to address any potential misconceptions by providing guidance and access to relevant resources.

The CFPB recently released the HMDA 2023 Modified Loan Application Data which is now available on the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) website linked here: FFIEC 2023 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. From here, you can access institution-specific modified Loan Application Register (LAR) files as well as a combined file containing data from all institutions. Of note, to protect privacy, certain data in the actual LARs of reporting institutions has been modified, however there are various tools such as the Beginner’s Guide to Accessing and Using Home Mortgage Disclosure Act Data.

We highly encourage GoWest credit unions to analyze this data to gauge your standing within the industry and track your progress over time as shifting currents within the regulatory realm continue to shape the mortgage landscape.
