Legislative Session in Colorado is off to the Races

Colorado’s 74th General Assembly convened today for the first day of the 2024 regular session. Often compared to “the first day of school” — today is a day of pomp and circumstances where the halls are filled with legislators, staff, advocates, and lobbyists sharing hugs and spend time catching up. Leaders in both chambers offer speeches, and theme this year was focused on civility and respect for the institution, all while enduring disruptions from the galleries and the hallways from Pro-Palestinian protestors.

Your GoWest team is in the building today, talking with legislators and lobbyists about proposed legislation and the two Sunset bills which have not been introduced yet.

We will keep you up to date on bills that are introduced and news from the legislature. But, in the meantime, check out a few local sources for some additional information.

A great write-up in the Colorado Sun previewing the session and discussing how to get involved: https://coloradosun.com/2024/01/10/2024-legislative-session-get-involved/

A story in the Denver Post about the first day of session: https://www.denverpost.com/2024/01/10/colorado-legislature-opening-day-democrats-republicans-state-capitol/

Finally, a Twitter/X post from the brilliant Greg Sobetski – Colorado’s Chief Economist – which gives the best summation that I have seen of Colorado’s December Economic Forecast:  https://x.com/GSobetski/status/1745053661485535562?s=20
