Job Description:

Sterling Federal Credit Union is currently searching for our next Chief Financial Officer. SFCU was originally chartered in 1938, and currently serves Logan and Morgan Counties in rural northeastern Colorado. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee and lead the accounting team
  • Work with the accounting team to establish annual objectives
  • Assume responsibility for coordinating and overseeing accounting and finance operations, Asset Liability Management, investments, liquidity, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Manage the cash and banking relationships and accounts of the credit union including the Federal Reserve, investments, ACH transactions, and develops ALM projections to guide the appropriate management of cash resources in terms of liquidity, yield, and matching of rates of interest and maturities
  • Prepare in coordination with the Senior Accounting Representative, all fiscal reports including income statement, balance sheet, budget and call reports
  • Prepare journal entries and balances work in the more complicated accounting areas. Provide end-of-month close and produce monthly financial statements. Prepare or assist with incurred cost and provisional rate reports as necessary
  • Prepare regulatory and governmental reports. Review financial information needed to ensure an accurate statement of the Credit Union’s financial position to various regulatory agencies
  • Ensure that all activities of the department are in accordance with GAAP and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations
  • Coordinate balance sheet modeling (forecasting, scenario analysis, etc.)
  • Oversee the reconciling of member deferred compensation and IRA transactions, as well as tax reporting
  • Assist the CEO in planning and administering the annual budget
  • Oversees the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets
  • Participate as a member of the Asset Liability Management Committee, monitoring capital adequacy, asset quality, and liquidity
  • Manage preparation and support of all external audits and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors
  • Prepare and present a monthly financial report for the board of directors
  • Review all month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities including general ledger maintenance and balance sheet reconciliation
  • Serve as final point of escalation for all accounting related issues
  • Assist in the managing the investment portfolio to achieve maximum profitability while maintaining liquidity and safety
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Study long-range economic trends and estimate requirements to support future growth
  • Coordinate capital purchase for all departments, branches & budget items
  • Assist the CEO in identifying new income opportunities
  • Partner with the lending department on research and implementation of lending programs to ensure financial soundness
  • Monitor financial benchmarks by reviewing payables, contracts, and credit union fees
  • Support Human Resources Director with payroll, retirement, and insurance when needed
  • Ability to be bonded
  • Ability to clear credit and criminal history check
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of credit union products and services
  • Compliance with the U.S Patriot Act and the Credit Union’s Bank Secrecy and OFAC Policies and Procedures
  • Compliance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Credit Union’s Information Security program, maintaining the privacy and security of information, systems, and locations

  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office products with a deep understanding of Excel
  • Knowledge of applicable finance laws, regulations, and ordinances
  • Significant knowledge of financial institution accounting
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Accurate and detailed self-starter who can exercise independent judgement and make sound decisions
  • Ability to take initiative in recommending/making changes to improve efficiencies
  • Thorough understanding of all areas of service within the credit union

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or a related field or equivalent experience in credit union operations required
  • Five years of financial experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience required
  • CPA license is preferred but not required
