Minnequa Works Credit Union, Colorado — Fueling Futures Grant Program

Minnequa Works Credit Union created the Fueling Futures Grant Program to invest in the entrepreneurs, small businesses, and organizations that help Southern Colorado thrive. Launched in 2024, the program was designed to provide financial support as well as create opportunities for long-term relationships, financial wellness, and business growth. Over the past two years, Fueling Futures has distributed $45,000 in grants to 20 local businesses and organizations, with an additional $30,000 set to be awarded in 2026.

The program was developed to address a common challenge facing many emerging businesses: finding early financial support and a trusted partner willing to invest in their vision. By serving as that important “first yes,” Minnequa Works has helped entrepreneurs strengthen their financial foundations, expand operations, and build connections that support long-term success. The initiative reflects the credit union philosophy of People Helping People and reinforces the role credit unions play in fostering local economic vitality.

Fueling Futures has delivered measurable impact beyond the initial grant dollars. Recipients have used the funding to purchase equipment, support growth initiatives, expand community outreach, and strengthen business sustainability. The program has also deepened member relationships, generating 61 additional product and service connections with the credit union, including business accounts, loans, savings products, and youth accounts. By combining financial support with ongoing guidance and partnership, Minnequa Works continues to help businesses and communities build a stronger future together.

Rivermark Community Credit Union, Oregon — Financial Wellness Capability Partners

Rivermark Community Credit Union earned recognition for a member-centered approach that extends far beyond traditional banking. Driven by the reality that 42% of Oregon households fall into the ALICE category, meaning they are asset limited, income constrained, and employed, Rivermark built a network of Financial Wellness Capability Partners to help members navigate the complex challenges that impact financial stability. Through partnerships focused on debt management, investment planning, and community support services, the credit union created a holistic model designed to meet members wherever they are in their financial journey.

At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to ensuring no member interaction ends with a “no.” More than 80 certified financial coaches provide judgment-free guidance and connect members to resources that address both immediate challenges and long-term goals. These connections include debt management support through GreenPath Financial Wellness, accessible retirement and investment planning through Human Investing, and referrals to housing, food, utility, legal, and other community services through Unite Us.

The program has delivered meaningful results for members. In 2025 alone, GreenPath helped Rivermark members consolidate more than $1.25 million in unsecured debt, while Human Investing served nearly 800 households with personalized financial planning and investment guidance. Rivermark also connected more than 100 members with critical community resources through Unite Us. By combining financial services with compassionate coaching and strategic partnerships, Rivermark has created a model that strengthens financial well-being, builds trust, and helps members achieve greater stability and opportunity.

Verity Credit Union, Washington — Community Cares

Verity Credit Union’s Community Cares initiative demonstrates what it means to show up for a community in a moment of need. In response to the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefit reductions, and the added financial pressures of the holiday season, Verity launched a rapid-response relief effort at its Beacon Hill and Auburn branches in November 2025. Open to both members and non-members, the events provided immediate support through $250 gift cards, personalized financial consultations, and connections to additional resources, all delivered in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.

The program was designed to help families facing urgent financial challenges, including federal employees impacted by missed paychecks, households affected by reduced SNAP benefits, and community members struggling to make ends meet. Verity recognized that financial hardship extends beyond dollars and cents, often affecting a family’s sense of stability and hope. By removing barriers to assistance and meeting people where they were, the credit union turned a moment of uncertainty into an opportunity for meaningful community support.

The impact was both immediate and far-reaching. More than 200 families received over $50,000 in direct financial relief, while every participant received individualized financial guidance and access to resources such as financial coaching and shutdown assistance programs. The initiative also resulted in more than 50 new member relationships and generated toy and food donations that continue to support families through partnerships with Wellspring Family Services and the Auburn Food Bank. Through Community Cares, Verity reinforced that credit unions are at their best when they lead with compassion, purpose, and action.

Winners in all categories will be announced at the GoWest Awards Dinner & Gala on Oct. 9 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Denver.
