The record-breaking crowd at the 2026 Legislative BBQ

Minnequa Works Credit Union and Wings Credit Union collaborated as sponsors of the 2026 Legislative BBQ, hosted by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce during the Colorado State Fair.

This year’s event marked a record-breaking year, bringing together more than 900 participants from throughout Colorado. Attendees included legislators, candidates for public office, business and community leaders, and representatives from industries that play an important role in the economic strength and future of Southern Colorado, the state, and communities across the nation.

The Legislative BBQ has long provided an opportunity for leaders from across sectors to connect in Pueblo and engage in conversations surrounding advocacy, economic development, public policy, industry needs, and the challenges and opportunities facing Colorado communities.

For Minnequa Works and Wings, the event also represented one of the defining principles of the Credit Union Movement: collaboration.

“Wings and credit unions across our state are deeply invested in Colorado’s future and in the success of the communities we serve,” said David Sprenger, SVP Government Relations & Credit Union Advocacy at Wings Credit Union. “As cooperatives, collaboration is part of who we are. We loved having the opportunity to work alongside Minnequa Works and demonstrate that when credit unions come together, we can strengthen our collective voice, build meaningful relationships, and ultimately help strengthen communities throughout Colorado.”

Unlike traditional financial institutions, credit unions operate as member-owned financial cooperatives with a longstanding philosophy of People Helping People. That cooperative structure often creates opportunities for credit unions to work together on advocacy, financial education, community development, and other initiatives that can have an impact beyond the walls of any individual institution.

“Credit unions were created to be problem solvers, and you could see that mindset come to life in so many of the conversations happening at this year’s Legislative BBQ,” said Nathan Cape, CEO of Minnequa Works Credit Union. “Whether the discussion was about economic development, affordability, workforce challenges, access to financial services, or the future of our communities, there was a common theme of people coming together to identify opportunities and find solutions. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with Wings and help share the credit union difference with our community and leaders from across Colorado.”

The record attendance at the 2026 Legislative BBQ reinforced the importance of bringing together individuals representing government, business, nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, and industries from across the state in an environment designed to encourage conversation and relationship building.

The partnership between Minnequa Works and Wings demonstrates how credit unions can remain independent organizations while working cooperatively toward shared goals that benefit members and communities.

Together, both organizations were proud to support an event centered on connection, advocacy, collaboration, and the continued advancement of Colorado communities.
