Supporting What Matters: NCUA Grants Expand Credit Union Impact

On June 29, the National Credit Union Administration announced $3.47 million in Community Development Revolving Loan Fund grants awarded to 97 low-income designated credit unions nationwide—strengthening operations, expanding access, and supporting service to underserved communities. GoWest credit unions received $118,000 of that total, advancing efforts to deepen impact across the region.

For recipients, the funding represents more than operational support — it’s an investment in people and communities. As Tyler Disburg, CEO and President of Pathfinder Federal Credit Union, shared, “This grant gives us the financial resources to expand financial education and connect with underserved individuals and families throughout our communities. When people have access to trusted financial guidance and affordable financial services, they gain the confidence to build better lives, which in turn builds better communities. That’s exactly the kind of impact we hope this grant will create.”

Grant awards ranged from $1,800 to $100,000 and supported credit unions in 36 states and Puerto Rico, with 79 small credit unions and 18 first-time applicants among the recipients. Funding supported a wide range of initiatives, including technology and cybersecurity upgrades, underserved outreach, artificial intelligence implementation, and workforce development programs — all designed to help credit unions meet evolving member needs.

For Cheney Federal Credit Union, the investment will accelerate key technology and cybersecurity initiatives while enhancing the member experience. “This funding allows Cheney Federal Credit Union to accelerate investments in technology, cybersecurity, and digital capabilities that will strengthen our operations and enhance the member experience,” said CEO Andrew Crosby. “These investments will help us continue our ongoing focus of delivering secure and reliable financial services to the members and communities we serve today and those we hope to serve in the future.”

Congratulations to GoWest credit unions who received grant awards to expand financial access and community impact across the region:
