Wyoming’s Interim Committee Topics Set

The Management Council met yesterday and finalized the 2026 interim study topics. Those that are of interest to credit unions – fraud, financial literacy, and emerging digital asset policy – were all approved, opening the door to advance priorities in the 2027 session.

The Joint Corporations Committee has identified fraud—particularly property deed fraud—as a key focus. Credit unions will engage and advocate for solutions to address both HELOC and property deed fraud risks. The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for May 21–22 in Lander.

The Education Committee will review the state’s “basket of goods,” with an emphasis on life skills and student readiness, including financial literacy. This presents a strong opportunity to reinforce the importance of integrating financial literacy into the classroom. The committee will meet June 1–2 in Casper.

The Select Blockchain Committee will discuss modifications to the Wyoming Stable Token Commission structure and authorities, evaluate integration of the Frontier Stable Token into Wyoming commerce, taxation, and state government processes. Data privacy and data ownership is also a proposed topic, including consumer data privacy and an evaluation of artificial intelligence legislation. The Committee also proposes to review the implementation of House Bill 75 – Virtual currency kiosks and consider statutory refinements. GoWest will advocate for refinements to HB 75 to exempt federally chartered credit unions from requirements to obtain a money transmitter license for virtual currency kiosks. The committee’s first meeting will be June 15-16 in Sheridan.

The Joint Management Audit Committee proposed to study unclaimed property statute revisions; however, the Management Council moved that topic to the Capitol Finance Committee.

The Joint Minerals and Joint Appropriations Committee were both assigned the Wyoming Business Council with the Minerals Committee focusing on structure and Appropriations Committee focusing on funding. The Revenue Committee will continue its property tax reform work with the House Chair and Freedom Caucus legislator,  Representative Locke, informing the Management Council that the committee’s intent is to eliminate property taxes and evaluate personal property taxes.
