Tax Policy Discussed at Wyoming Taxpayers Association Meeting

The 88th Annual Wyoming Taxpayers Association meeting was held this week in Cheyenne. The organization monitors tax policy in the state, conducts extensive research, and reports on the state’s tax structure and revenue.

The gathering included several panel discussions featuring state legislators, locally elected officials, and lobbyists representing a variety of industries in the state. Governor Mark Gordon joined the event and provided remarks at the luncheon.

Mike Jones, Fremont County Commissioner, spoke on a local government panel that addressed the impacts local governments are beginning to experience because of the property tax reductions adopted by the legislature in the last several years. Jones also serves on the board of the Grand Altitude FCU.

The primary focus of the discussion was the upcoming budget session and the tension between members of the legislature on how to handle both savings and taxation going forward and the impact those decisions will have on local governments and essential services.

GoWest is a member of the Association and was an event sponsor.
