Job Description:

Summary of the Position:  

The CFO is an integral part of the Executive Management Team who will provide support to the President/CEO and be responsible for managing and maintaining the overall financial stability of the credit union. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing both the Accounting and IT departments, as well as providing support and guidance to other Senior Management Team members, and mid-level management staff throughout the credit union.

This position will be responsible for financial reporting, asset/liability management, liquidity analysis, interest rate risk, budget development and analysis, strategic planning and investment portfolio management. This individual will serve as the Asset-Liability Committee chairperson, and report to the ALM committee and Board of Directors at regular monthly meetings to advise on the financial position of the credit union.

The CFO is also responsible for managing the credit union’s information technology and cybersecurity programs to ensure compliance and protect the credit union from threats and risks. They will hold a vital role in the overall security and preparedness of the credit union, including business continuity planning and incident response. They will also serve as the lead for all audits and examinations, and work closely with the credit union vendor partners and examiners to ensure a successful audit process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain an accounting system that accurately reflects the financial position of the credit union
  • Responsible for reconciliation and balancing of all accounts of the credit union in accordance with federal, state and CPA approved law and policies
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports to the CEO and Board of Directors
  • Responsible for all financial reporting, including government reporting, tax filings and internal reporting
  • Develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures and ensure they reflect current regulations and that the accounting procedures are in strict compliance with general accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Responsible for all credit union investments, including the investment policy, investment purchases, investment record-keeping and ensuring a reasonable return on investment while maintaining the highest level of prudence, safety and soundness
  • Responsible for preparation of the annual budget and periodic analysis of budget variances
  • Monitor, forecast and manage credit union liquidity
  • Maintain relationships with the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee and provide assistance and support as needed
  • Serve as the credit union liaison with NCUA/DFI and other regulatory agency examiners to maintain high standards of compliance
  • Oversees the preparation and submission of the quarterly 5300 call report to the NCUA
  • Monitor and analyze expenses and perform cost analysis reviews as necessary
  • Serve as the chairperson for the Asset-Liability Management Committee and report to the ALCO and Board of Directors monthly
  • Responsible for evaluating, analyzing and reporting on interest rate risk, risks to net worth, concentration risk, current expected credit loss (CECL) and liquidity risk management
  • Serve as the chairperson for the Rate Committee and collaborate with the Senior Management Team to determine share and loan interest rates
  • Identifying and implementing departmental and organizational efficiencies, policies and procedures to streamline and remain in compliance
  • Responsible for the oversight of all HR related activities, including policies and procedures, hiring/termination processes, payroll and other benefits
  • Responsible for the overall IT functionality of the credit union including risk management, personnel administration and privileges, vendor management, business continuity and disaster recovery, incident response, physical security, boundary defense, internal network, data administration, endpoint security, logging and alerting, system maintenance, change management, network user access and application administration
  • Manage and maintain a working relationship with our IT Managed Service Provider and provide direction and oversight
  • Lead all IT related projects and provide support to internal staff with the assistance of our third-party service provider
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

 Requirements for the Position:

  • Product Knowledge:
    • Understanding of credit union regulations, policies, procedures, practices, services, products and programs
    • Strong accounting, mathematical and financial management skills, including financial ratios relevant to the industry
    • Understand the credit union’s mission, vision and strategic business plan
    • Proficient in software programs such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel), Adobe, Windows OS, and other credit union core financial systems.
    • Good understanding of computer technology and systems, including servers, PCs, routers, printers, etc. and the ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in a senior management or executive level position required (preferably at a credit union)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or other related field from an accredited college or university
  • Work Environment and Physical Considerations: This position operates in a professional office environment and requires the ability to travel among branches and perform other necessary travel for work-related duties.
