Westerra Credit Union Pledges $105,000 to Teacher Preparation Programs

In a continued effort to uplift Colorado school teachers, Westerra Credit Union has partnered with Public Education & Business Coalition (PEBC), pledging $105,000 over two years to support its Teacher Residency Program, New American Pathway Program, Westerra-sponsored teacher residency scholarships and more. These programs provide high-quality training to aspiring teachers to help reduce the Colorado teacher shortage and ensure every student has access to an exceptional teacher.

Earlier this month, PEBC hosted its Evening to Elevate Educators event, where over 300 community members celebrated educators at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, raising more than $158,000 to support the organization’s programs. Kicking off the collaboration, Westerra underwrote attendance for 50 educators, demonstrating the credit union’s commitment to transforming the lives of educators and students across the state.

“Colorado teachers, especially those in our community, deserve to be celebrated and acknowledged as they continuously impact their students’ lives,” said PEBC Board Member and Westerra Credit Union Vice President of Retail Strategy and Member Experience Fernando Mandujano.“We look forward to working with PEBC to provide educators with opportunities to grow professionally, giving these students the backbone for future success.”

“We’re deeply grateful to Westerra Credit Union for making this investment in supporting high- quality teachers,” said PEBC President Sue Sava. “Teachers are the foundation of our future workforce. When the business community steps up to support educators, it strengthens our entire state and economy, and Westerra Credit Union is leading by example.”

Since its founding by eight schoolteachers in 1934, Westerra Credit Union has remained committed to helping individuals, families and businesses in Denver, Colo., and surrounding areas thrive by “teaching one another to prosper.”
