Colorado Credit Union Helps Women Build Credit and Confidence Through EmpowerHER Program

Colorado Credit Union, based in Littleton, Colo., celebrated the success of its EmpowerHER Financial Literacy Program, equipping women at Dress for Success Denver with essential financial skills. Made possible through a grant from the Centennial Lending a Hand Foundation, the program provided education on budgeting and credit management, empowering participants with the knowledge and tools to take control of their financial futures with confidence.

The four-week program, hosted at Colorado Credit Union’s branch, offered in-person workshops led by the credit union’s financial experts. Workshops covered essential topics such as credit basics, budgeting strategies, responsible credit use, and long-term financial planning. Participants also benefited from guest speakers on homeownership and tax preparation, with many women receiving free tax filing preparation through the credit union’s partnership with Littleton VITA. A key feature of the program was the opportunity for participants to join Colorado Credit Union and receive a funded $500 secured credit card. All 14 graduates earned this incentive, allowing them to establish or rebuild their credit with guided support.

“The EmpowerHER program is a testament to the power of financial education in transforming lives,” said Teagan Werden, Community Impact Manager at Colorado Credit Union. “It was a pleasure working with the women in the program, and we are grateful to Dress for Success Denver for its partnership in this mission.”

One EmpowerHER graduate shared, “The EmpowerHER program has significantly impacted my financial management. I’ve started tracking my expenses more diligently, created a budget, and prioritized savings for short-term and long-term goals. The program’s emphasis on financial literacy and planning has given me the confidence to take control of my financial future.”

Colorado Credit Union’s partnership with Dress for Success Denver reflects a strong commitment to financial literacy and empowering community members with the education for lasting financial well-being. By providing education that builds confidence and real-world financial skills, this collaboration is helping women gain stability and achieve their goals.
