WATCH: Advocating for Credit Unions In DC this Week

Ryan Fitzgerald, SVP, Advocacy, is on the ground in Washington, D.C. this week, with a very focused agenda advocating for GoWest credit unions. The priorities include:

  • Vigilant advocacy to protect credit unions’ tax status throughout the continuing budgeting/reconciliation process, to ensure the bank lobby’s anti-credit union talking points do not gain traction;
  • Monitoring discussions around budget cuts and “pay-for” concepts in the House Ways and Means Committee;
  • Meeting with new staffers assigned to financial committees, including representatives from the offices of Rep. Harriel Hageman (WY at large), Rep. Jeff Hurd (CO-3), and Senator John Barrasso (WY);
  • Advocating for CU Act modernization, particularly in the key offices of Sen. Mike Crapo (ID), Sen. Cynthia Lummis (WY), and Rep. Brittany Pettersen (CO-7); and
  • Discussing the stablecoin bill that was marked up and passed out of Senate Banking. Our goal is to ensure credit unions are part of the emerging digital assets space.

Against that backdrop, it’s a busy week as you’ll hear in Ryan’s video; numerous groups are in town holding rallies or protests to support their priorities. We’re making sure the CU voice rises to the top!
