Wyoming public deposits bill advances

Senate File 143 – Public monies – deposits in credit unions passed House Committee of the Whole yesterday on a voice vote. Majority Floor Leader Heiner, Sweetwater County presented the bill on the floor and Representatives Lloyd Larsen, Fremont County; Martha Lawley, Washakie County; Abby Angelos, Campbell County; Ann Lucas, Laramie County; and J.T. Larson, Sweetwater County all offered comments in support of the bill.

Representative Geringer, Laramie County questioned constitutionality.  Representative Lloyd Larsen responded highlighting past attorney general and LSO staff opinions that addressed the issue and no further questions were asked.

The bill passed second reading today and will be on third and final reading in the Senate Monday.  Credit union advocates will be on hand Monday to continue to address questions and convey the importance of the bill.

The Wyoming Association of Municipalities and Wyoming County Commissioners Association have been instrumental in helping garner support for the bill.
