CEO JoAn Sanders Retires from Cheney Federal Credit Union After 34 Years

Wash.-based Cheney Federal Credit Union has announced the retirement of CEO JoAn Sanders after nearly 34 years of service to the credit union and its members.

During Sander’s 34-year tenure, the credit union weathered the ups and downs of the economy, an ever-changing regulatory environment, and events like Y2K and the COVID pandemic, and she is proud to say that CFCU remained strong throughout all the challenges the credit union faced.

Sanders came to CFCU after working for 12 years in the banking industry. She heard about an open position at the credit union, and as Cheney, Wash., is her husband’s hometown, she applied for and was offered the job – and the rest is history.

“It has been my honor to lead our team through 34 years of growth, challenges, opportunities, and innovation,” reflected Sanders. “I have worked with amazing staff and volunteers who continue to focus on the needs of our membership.”

As Sanders turns the page, she is excited for the next chapter for both her and the credit union. She is confident that CFCU will continue to thrive with the leadership of incoming CEO Andrew Crosby, the Board of Directors, and the rest of the CFCU team.

“I would like to say thank you to our dedicated volunteers, both past and present,” Sanders shared. “Thank you to the CFCU staff. Thank you to colleagues who have been mentors and friends. And thank you to all the CFCU members that continue to trust us as your financial partner.”
