A GoWest Connection on the Proposed Trump Cabinet

Continuing our blog series on White House appointments and congressional changes, today we are highlighting the recent nomination for Secretary of Labor, Congresswoman Lori Chavez-Deremer (R-OR-5).

Last Friday, President-elect Donald Trump announced Oregon Congresswoman Lori Chavez-Deremer (R-OR-5) as his pick for Labor Secretary. Before serving in Congress, Representative Chavez-Deremer began her public service career in 2002 serving on the Happy Valley Parks Committee, then was elected Mayor of Happy Valley for two terms beginning in 2010. She was elected to represent Oregon’s 5th Congressional District in 2022.  She lost her bid for reelection this year but got the nod from President-elect Trump as his Labor Secretary nominee last week. The position requires Senate confirmation.

The role of the Secretary of Labor is to lead the Department of Labor, by enforcing and administering federal laws and regulations that impact laborers, retirees and citizens seeking employment. The Labor Secretary also works with Congress to pass legislation related to labor and workforce issues.

Rep. Chavez-Deremer has been a strong supporter of credit union issues during her time in Congress. She has visited credit unions in her district and always made time to meet with local leaders during trips to Washington, D.C. If Chavez-Deremer is confirmed, credit unions will benefit from having a close connection in the Administration

GoWest will monitor the confirmation process of all cabinet nominees.
