Arizona Credit Union Advocates Meet with Friendly Candidates

Arizona credit union leaders spent time today with two strong supporters in Congress. The meetings come amid this year’s important election season.

This morning, Representative Congressman Juan Ciscomani, representing the 6th District, joined the group. Rep. Ciscomani sits on the important House Appropriations Committee and the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

The Congressman has a very unique credit union story and relationship with Tucson area credit unions, his family having leaned on a credit union to gain financial stability soon after immigrating from Mexico. Credit unions have been a key factor in his growing up and gaining early financial footing having received his first loan from another credit union and being a long-time member and supporter.

Rep. Ruben Gallego joins Arizona credit union advocates

This afternoon, Representative Ruben Gallego, Congressman Ruben Gallego met with the group. Gallego currently represents the 3rd District of Arizona, but is seeking the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). Gallego sits on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee.

Rep. Gallego was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2010 and served until 2014. As a state legislator, he became known for his tough stand against extreme legislation in the state legislature. He also led the push to expand Medicaid and worked to secure in-state tuition for veterans.

Rep. Gallego is a sponsor of the important SAFE Act, the legislation which ensures legitimate cannabis-related businesses can have access to financial institutions, such as their local credit unions, to safely and securely perform their financial operations without fear of federal retribution from the Department of Justice or federal regulators.
