Applications Open for Colorado’s Brayman-Beach Scholarship

The GoWest Credit Union Foundation is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for consideration for the 2024 Brayman-Beach Scholarship.
The Brayman-Beach Scholarship is named in honor of Susan J. Brayman and Carroll D. Beach, two visionary leaders of the credit union movement whose contributions have made a lasting mark. This unique scholarship opportunity celebrates their commitment to our community by investing in Colorado youth, and in turn, the future of the credit union movement.
Each year, two, $5,000 scholarships are awarded to students who are a member of a Colorado-based credit union seeking a business degree from a four-year accredited institution. The philosophy behind the scholarship is simple: Help young credit union members achieve their dream of a higher education.
Scholarship namesake Carroll Beach said the scholarships were envisioned with the belief that, “education is the most important tool to navigate a successful life journey.” He added, “we established the scholarship hoping that in a modest way we could assist deserving high school graduates in securing a college degree, while at the same time, give the recipient a greater knowledge of the opportunities within the credit union space.”
That opportunity couldn’t be truer than for 2023 recipient, Lorenzo Giovanetti. Not only was Giovanetti a member of Colorado Credit Union, but he was also an intern, who earned high praise from CEO Mike Williams, who said at the time “we couldn’t be more excited for Lorenzo to have his hard work and dedication recognized.” Williams added, “I would like to thank the GoWest Foundation for honoring Lorenzo with this scholarship. I can’t think of a more deserving recipient.”
Giovanetti attends the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He said, “being a recipient of the 2023 Brayman-Beach Scholarship was such an honor. As an out-of-state student at the University of Alabama, the funds helped pay for books, room, and board. I could focus on academics and activities that have helped promote my career goals.”
He certainly has, so far. He was one of a select few who made the 4.0+ President’s List his freshman year. Additionally, he joined the Culverhouse Investment Management Group, Investment Banking Academy, and the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity.
Giovanetti plans to return to Colorado this summer to work at Colorado Credit Union, where he “hopes to apply what I am learning in college. The Brayman-Beach Scholarship allowed me the freedom to do many things in and out of the classroom related to my career choice. I am grateful to Susan J. Brayman and Carroll D. Beach, for this scholarship and the opportunities it has afforded me.”
Which is exactly what the founders intended. “Former recipients have reacted very positively toward the scholarship, and we have assisted several students of diverse backgrounds in pursuing a successful college degree,” Beach said. “It is always impressive and heartwarming to hear the gratitude expressed by the individuals who have received the scholarships.”
The deadline for applications is Friday, April 12, 2024. To learn more and to sign up, visit the Brayman-Beach Scholarship website.
