Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Functions as a member of the Credit Union executive management team, actively participates in establishing, implementing, and achieving the corporate goals and objectives. Participates and assists the Credit Union in formulating and meeting its overall strategic plans, and financial goals. Compiles and directs financial reports and analysis for Management, Supervisory Committee, Board of Directors, auditors, and government agencies. Monitors and reviews company policies and department procedures periodically and recommends updates and improvements. Ensures and adheres to all related generally accepted accounting principles, tax, regulatory laws, rules and regulations to adequately and accurately reflect the financial position of the Credit Union.  Responsible for the oversight of the financial statements, day to day accounting, analysis, and operations functions within the Credit Union.  Maintains effective communication and coordination with all levels of Credit Union personnel and management.

 

Essential Functions & Additional Responsibilities

 

50%  – Oversee the financial statements, accounting, finance and operations functions

Responsible for the development and preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statement reports.  Ensures that records, reports, and operational functions are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations.  Independent or partners with other executives to manages, monitor and report on the annual budget, strategic plan, interest rate risk, liquidity, credit, and capital.  Prepare or manage individuals who prepare internal and external financial analytics and reporting.  Effectively oversee the operational functions which include all payment types (card, ACH, check, etc.) dispute processing, IRAs and various other member and non-member impacting back-office functions.

 

30%   – Establish Financial and Operational Strategies and Efficiencies

Work collaboratively and actively partner with the Executive Management team to determine long- and short-term vision for the corporate financials, the accounting, finance, and operations areas.  Help to identify and implement departmental and global efficiencies leveraging technology where possible. Manage and lead relationships with vendors, employees, and systems.  Ensure they are performing at the highest service levels to our members both internally and externally.

 

15%  – Effectively Communicate and Coordinate 

Builds collaborative working relationships with the Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, Executive Management team, and direct reports to lead the accounting, finance, and operations areas.  Ensures that all personnel are well trained, effective, and optimally utilize the technology provided. Instructs personnel regularly regarding policy, procedure, program, and system modifications or changes.

 

5%    Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education:                  

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.  CPA highly preferred

 

Experience:                       

Minimum of 8-10 years related senior management experience and a minimum of five years’ financial institution experience.

Skills & Competencies:

 

Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting

  • Knowledge of the financial industry accounting and financial practices including regulatory reporting, Call Report, and Interest Rate Risk (IRR)
  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative in business solutions with high ethical standards and trustworthiness.
  • Proven, high-level experience of decision-making within the discipline and authority of the role.
  • Use of advanced logic to make highly complex judgments with a material impact at the organizational level.
  • Work as a team member and possess positive influencing skills to bring others to new thinking and mindset.
  • Present a professional, courteous image when interacting with members, co-workers, the Board of Directors, management, business partners, and the community.
  • Act as a change agent who can collaborate with diverse interests and adapt to internal, market or regulatory-driven changes.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and collaborative tools (Teams and Zoom).
  • Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate to all stakeholders.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of organization’s Employee Handbook.
  • Must demonstrate functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to:   U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
