Job Description:

Beginning Pay Range: $23.79 – $29.74 per hour and eligible for a 25% shift differential for hours worked on Sunday.

OCCU is looking for experienced Underwriters. The Underwriter is responsible for assisting members with their lending needs, analyze loan requests and make credit decisions based on lending policy. The department hours are Monday – Sunday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m; one Saturday or Sunday shift is required each week.

Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. These duties are a representative example of position expectations. Actual duties assigned may vary and change depending on the business needs of the department and OCCU. 

  • Underwrite consumer and real estate loans in accordance with the standards and guidelines of OCCU as well as regulatory standards.
  • Analyze and evaluate all aspects of borrower’s credit, related risks and offsets, employment/income and asset profiles to arrive at a loan decision. Establish the terms and conditions of an approved loan and review them with the representative. Make decision to approve, disapprove or forward the loan request to higher levels for decision.
  • Participate in sales development by providing additional qualified opportunities and encouraging representatives to cross sell them. Assist in Enrichment Advisor and Senior Enrichment Advisor training and roll out of new products through branch visits, job shadowing and meetings.  
  • Interview representatives to gather information concerning member loan needs, earnings and financial condition.
  • Follow current loan policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Understand and implement the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Federal Truth-in-Lending Act and other federal and state lending laws applying to state-chartered credit unions. 
  • Must follow all BSA regulations, including completing CTR reports when applicable, reporting suspicious activity via SAR when applicable and completing annual training.
  • Serve as primary contact point for 3rd party vendors.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Preferred qualifications for the position include:

Two to five years of similar or related experience. 

Education:

Equivalent to a two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.

An equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position will be considered in lieu of the outlined requirements.

Work Environment: Office-related work is primarily conducted in a temperature-controlled office environment. Our office spaces include traditional office lighting (including fluorescent lighting), as well as shared office spaces and facilities that result in consistent and frequent noise (moderate and often louder than ambient noise), conversations among employees and/or members, interruptions and other similar distractions. 

Work Hours: This job can typically be done within a Monday through Saturday schedule; however, based on events going on there will be times when evening and weekend work is required with little or no notice.
