Pay Range:
The full pay range is $19.73 – $29.59/hour. Depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available. Incentive targets vary by role.

We provide an additional $2.00 per hour bilingual differential for those employees who are able to support our members’ financial needs effectively in a second language; subject to verification of strong grasp of financial terms utilizing language skillset.

We are seeking a Home Equity Specialist to join our team! This position is responsible for assisting clients in leveraging their home equity to secure loans and lines of credit. Evaluates client needs, analyzing financial data, and facilitating the application process to ensure clients receive appropriate home equity products. Provides exceptional customer service and maintains compliance with industry regulations and company policies. Promotes credit union philosophy and objectives.

Essential Functions and Tasks:

  • Maintains a high level of knowledge and procedural expertise in the type of Home Equity products offered by the Credit Union.
  • Interviews loan applicants in person or by telephone, gathering pertinent information for a credit application, including taking in information gathered at the branch level; explaining loan rates, options, terms, and collateral as required. Reviews and assembles all loan documents to ensure accuracy. Submits Home Equity applications for to Processing team for loan processing.
  • Conducts thorough consultations with clients to understand their financial needs and objectives. Answers questions and solves problems by listening, collecting data, securing answers, and following up on details to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of the inquiry party. Discusses sensitive financial circumstances in a frank, yet tactful and professional manner. Provides clear and accurate information regarding products and services.
  • Explains the features, benefits, and requirements of home equity loans and lines of credit.
  • Assists clients in completing home equity loan applications and gather necessary documentation.
  • Submits applications for underwriting and follow up on the status of the applications.
  • Analyzes clients’ financial situations to determine eligibility and suitable loan amounts.
  • Reviews and verifies client information, including income, credit history, property value, and existing mortgage details.
  • Calculates loan-to-value (LTV) ratios and other relevant financial metrics.
  • Works directly with the First Mortgage team to provide members with the optimum mortgage products and services available.
  • Provides exceptional customer service throughout the loan application process and after loan disbursement.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation for all client interactions and transactions.
  • Works directly with third party vendors to service their products.
  • Acts as a support service for other departments with respect to Home Equity loan products and backs up other functions of the Mortgage Lending Department, as directed by the VP of Residential Lending.
  • Performs lending functions in conformance with established credit union policies and procedures. Adheres to policies surrounding receiving and sending member sensitive information.
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations, policies, and industry trends.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Previous experience in a credit union or other financial institution preferred.

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in mortgage lending, home equity loans, or a related field

Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Strong, well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to determine existing or potential member needs. Demonstrated ability to communicate with members and team in a business-like manner.
  • Ability to perform detailed work from routine to complex in nature.
  • Excellent analytical and financial assessment skills.
  • Proficient in using mortgage software and financial analysis tools.
  • Analytical ability to conduct an analysis and give current status of an applicant’s application in a very short period of time.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Credit Union lending policies and procedures to effectively answer member and branch personnel’s questions.
  • Strong negotiation skills to effectively work with branch personnel, including underwriters, in order to get the best or most appropriate loan decision for the membership.
  • Ability to work independently and function effectively as a member of a team.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and tact in dealing with branch staff and management.

This position is eligible for coverage under the credit union’s group welfare benefits program the first of the month following your date of employment. The benefits program includes coverage paid in full by the credit union, benefits which employees share in the cost, and voluntary coverage. Employees and their eligible family members have access to a wide array of employee benefits, such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Coverage covered at 100% by the credit union includes Basic Life/Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance, Long-Term Disability, and Travel Accident Coverage. Employees share in the cost of Medical Insurance, which also includes Dental and Vision coverage. Employees also have the option to elect voluntary coverage for Life/AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and AFLAC at 100% of the cost.

The credit union offers the utilization of Flexible Spending (FSA), Dependent Care (DCA), and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) that are set up to reimburse you with pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare and/or dependent care costs. Eligibility to contribute towards one of these savings accounts is effective with the medical insurance enrollment, based on the type of medical coverage selected.

Full-Time Regular employees accrue 8 hours of vacation and 8 hours of sick leave, on a monthly basis. Full-Time Regular hired employees also receive 11 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, 1 floating holiday, 16 hours of self-care time, and 16 hours of volunteer time.
