Job Description:

CapEd’s Consumer Loan Underwriting Expert provides financial services of superior quality and convenience through examining, evaluating, and approving or declining member applications for Consumer Direct and Indirect loans by following established credit union loan guidelines and policy. This position provides subject matter expertise to the Consumer Loan Underwriting team and all departments for the organization. Identifies and communicates improvements to the departments operating methods and procedures.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Analyzes current financial position of applicants to determine the degree or risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Makes decision to approve, disapprove, or forward the loan request to higher levels for decision.

  • Assists internal branch staff or dealers with understanding declined loan requests from members and potential members, while actively listening to and inquiring about members needs with the objective of enhancing the member experience and offering value-added solutions.
  • Establishes the terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews them with the appropriate individual (internal team member, dealer, or other indirect channel representative).
  • Reviews delinquency reports, dealer reports and rate sheets.
  • Supports Consumer Loan Underwriting and Indirect Funding team by accepting unresolved complex member inquires and works directly with loan officers or external business partners to research and explore potential solutions to provide alternatives within company policy. Provides overrides within limits as needed. Follows escalation processes to direct loans to appropriate team member as needed.
  • Assists department training for current or new employees and for other departments by sharing knowledge and expertise of internal procedures, how compliance or other regulations affect processes, and helping employees be confident in job functions relating to Consumer Lending products and services.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations to improve the department’s operating methods, training and procedures. Collaborates with other departments on member service delivery and process development projects.
  • Researches and maintains a thorough knowledge of Commercial Lending policies and procedures, keeps up to date on regulation changes.
  • Maintains knowledge of all Credit Union products, services, and promotions.
  • Contributes to efficient Credit Union operations by performing other job-related duties as assigned.
