Job Description:

The Chief Lending Officer strategically manages all areas of the Credit Union’s Lending function. The CLO will be responsible for loan portfolio management and risk analysis. Developing and implementing compliant and sound loan practices and procedures and driving loan growth and innovative product development across Residential, Commercial, and Consumer Lending areas. Primary leadership responsible for risk management and strict adherence to compliance, audit and regulatory requirements. Serves as a member of the executive management team, which oversees all aspects of credit union management including strategic planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  •  Develop and maintain effective lending practices to meet loan production, portfolio yield and service quality; oversee and carry out all strategic initiatives pertaining to lending policies and practices.
  • Manage the loan portfolios, expand loan operations into new markets, strengthen the product line and streamline processes within the lending department.
  • Control lending profitability, interpret and present on lending and financial reports; report to the Executive team and Board of Directors on the lending performance of Canvas’ loan portfolios.
  • Participate as a member of executive management in developing short- and long-range plans, strategies and policies. Serves on various management committees.
  • Implement policy, procedures and lending programs; and recommend new products and services.
  • Ensure effective administration and regulatory compliance of corporate loan policies, programs, objectives and goals.
  • Select and provide for the continuing development of subordinate managers and staff. Conducts annual performance reviews, and provides ongoing guidance, training and direction to managers in developing and implementing the Credit Union’s plans and objectives. Promotes cost consciousness and fiscal responsibility.
  • Provide leadership in developing and enforcing appropriate lending controls.
  • Responsible for budgeting, strategic planning and continual process improvement.
  • Assumes other duties as necessary to achieve the strategic goals of the credit union.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Experience in commercial and residential lending products and services
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory compliance, and state/federal compliance and regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of lending policies and credit union operations
  • Strong working knowledge of profitability analysis and asset/liability managementEducation or Formal Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting. Advanced degree preferred.

    Experience:  Ten to fifteen years of progressively responsible related lending experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably served as Chief Lending Officer in a Credit Union size of 4 billion assets or greater, with proven experience leading multiple lines including business, consumer, mortgage lending.
