Crook County School District Launches Student Finance & Investing Club With Support from Mid Oregon Credit Union

A new Student Personal Finance & Investing Club, made possible through a grant and community partnership with Mid Oregon Credit Union, has been launched in Oregon’s Crook County School District.
For students in a rural community, opportunities to connect directly with financial professionals and explore careers in finance and investing can be limited. This club will help bridge that gap by connecting students with local professionals and providing meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
“Our schools have a responsibility to prepare students for the financial decisions and opportunities they will encounter throughout their lives,” said Dr. Joel Hoff, Superintendent of Crook County School District. “This club builds on the financial literacy foundation we already provide and gives students the chance to go deeper, explore their interests, and connect with real-world professionals. We are grateful to Mid Oregon Credit Union for investing in our students and our community.”
Building on what students learn in their required personal finance course, this club offers an engaging, hands-on opportunity to take that learning further. Students will explore personal finance, investing, business, and related careers through simulations, projects, guest speakers, and real-world experiences — extending their learning beyond the classroom and giving them the opportunity to pursue their interests in greater depth.
“Building financial literacy among young people is a key commitment Mid Oregon makes to the communities we serve,” said Mid Oregon Credit Union President and CEO Kevin Cole. “We are honored to partner with Crook County Schools to help fulfill this commitment.”
The club will meet monthly during the school year and feature hands-on activities, simulations, student projects, guest speakers, and conversations with local professionals. Topics will include investing, budgeting, credit, taxes, entrepreneurship, financial aid, and careers in the financial sector.
The District hopes to serve approximately 20–30 students in the first year while building lasting partnerships with local financial institutions, businesses, and professionals.
