A Strong Partnership Between Colorado Credit Union and Girl Scouts Drives Financial Empowerment

Colorado Credit Union hosted 30 Girl Scouts at their Brighton branch for an engaging financial literacy event through the Junior Financial Counselor patch program. At the event, Girl Scouts explored foundational budgeting skills, learned about the true cost of everyday products, and practiced how to plan, save, and make thoughtful spending decisions.

For the past three years, Colorado Credit Union has proudly partnered with Girl Scouts of Colorado on the Junior Financial Counselor patch program, empowering nearly 500 Girl Scouts with essential financial skills. This work is further strengthened by the recent launch of the Colorado Credit Union Cares Foundation, enabling the credit union to deepen its community impact and expand its commitment to financial education.

“The launch of the Colorado Credit Union Cares Foundation allows us to be even more intentional about investing in financial empowerment across our communities,” said Teagan Werden, Executive Director of the Colorado Credit Union Cares Foundation. “Our longstanding partnership with Girl Scouts of Colorado is a meaningful example of how we can create lasting impact by equipping young people with the skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions.”

During the event, Girl Scouts put their new skills to the test through the Bite of Reality simulation, an app-based reality fair designed to help Girl Scouts practice making real-world financial decisions through managing a household’s monthly expenses.

“Financial literacy is more than just handling money, it’s about shaping informed citizens who can navigate life’s complexities,” said CEO of Girl Scouts of Colorado Leanna Clark. “By introducing these critical skills early, we’re equipping our girls to be financially savvy and helping them make informed decisions that will benefit them throughout their lives.”

Girl Scouts across Colorado can also earn their Junior Financial Counselor Patch through virtual materials, including an online Bite of Reality experience. This program empowers Girl Scouts to share the financial knowledge they gain with others in their community, extending the impact of financial education.
