Budget Session Winds Down

The 21-day budget session is beginning to wind down. Today will mark the last day of work on bills. The legislative schedule this year includes one additional day than the typical 20-day session. The legislature will recess after Friday’s work and reconvenes next Wednesday to consider Gubernatorial veto overrides.

The Governor has been signing bills. Credit union supported legislation, SF 31 Uniform mortgage modification act has been signed. Members of the coalition of organizations and entities supporting HB 75 Virtual currency kiosks legislation met with the Governor’s office to explain the need for legislation including the Senate amendment to make the act effective immediately.

Today will also wrap up Joint Committee meetings to discuss interim study topics. Earlier this week, GoWest advocated on the HELOC fraud issue in the Joint Corporations Committee. Today, we testified in the Joint Education committee in support of the life skills topic, which includes financial literacy. The final interim study topics will be acted on by the Management Council after the session.
