Numerica Credit Union Supports North Idaho Families Amid Pause on State’s Childcare Program

A pause on new enrollments to the Idaho Child Care Program (ICCP) is impacting many local families who require affordable care for their children in order to maintain employment or education. With delayed benefits and legislature’s consideration of reducing eligibility thresholds, Numerica Credit Union is responding with a $15,000 gift to support childcare scholarships.

“At Numerica, we are committed to supporting our communities and members, especially in times of need,” said Carla Cicero, Numerica Credit Union President and CEO. “As childcare costs increase and accessibility diminishes, families are being left with difficult choices. Through our Numerica CARES for Kids program, we’re proud to offer funding and support to partner providers so local children receive the childcare they need.”

Numerica’s $15,000 donation to address the childcare challenges in North Idaho will be distributed to:

  • $5,000 to United Way of North Idaho (UWNI) for its ALICE Child Care Scholarship Program which supports working who are families ineligible for subsidized care.
  • $5,000 to Center for New Directions at North Idaho College for emergency support for single parents pursuing higher education.
  • $5,000 to North Idaho College Children’s Center to subsidize on-campus childcare tuition for low-income students and staff.

“With the ICCP pause in enrollment, we have heard from our applicants that making ends meet and paying for childcare in order to continue to be able to go to work has become increasingly difficult, or even impossible,” said Nicky Swayne, United Way of North Idaho Community Impact Manager. “UWNI will use the Numerica donation to help sustain our ability to award tuition scholarships in November and December. On behalf of the ALICE childcare recipients, we are grateful for Numerica’s impactful support.”
