October 17 is International Credit Union Day – Time to Educate, Participate & Celebrate!

Thursday, Oct. 17 marks the 76th annual International Credit Union Day, celebrating the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is for reflecting upon the credit union movement’s history, promoting its achievements, recognizing hard work, and sharing member experiences.
The goal of International Credit Union (ICU) Day is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. Credit unions are encouraged to have a day of festivities that might include fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering, or parades.
This year, the theme of ICU Day is “One World Through Cooperative Finance.” According to the World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU) website, “At a time in our history when we seem increasingly divided, we hope our credit unions use the 76th anniversary of ICU Day to show how our movement brings people closer together through democratic, member-owned financial institutions that put people over profit.”
WOCCU and Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) are giving you three ways to show that and how our movement is truly about people helping people: Education, Participation, and Celebration.
To make it easy to participate, there is a library of free resources for credit unions to use on the WOCCU website, including posters, logos, coloring pages, news releases, speeches, engagement ideas, and more — available in multiple languages.
ICU Day offers an excellent opportunity to promote your credit union while telling members and potential members about the impact credit unions have on lives worldwide.
