December 13, 2023
This year, Hughes Federal Credit Union, based in Tucson, Arizona, received the Dora Maxwell Award and the CUNA Diamond Award for its 70 Acts of Kindness community impact campaign.
The credit union has long prioritized supporting those in need and its campaign has made a significant impact.
Last year, Hughes celebrated its 70th anniversary through the 70 Acts of Kindness campaign only to exceed that number and complete 105 acts. The credit union offered direct support to members such as building homes, volunteer efforts, monetary donations, and initiatives like financial education that focused on long-term community development. In a demonstration of inclusivity, the credit union also created a sensory program for neuro-diverse and Autistic children, which highlighted its thoughtful approach to diverse needs within the community.
Financial education is an important initiative for Hughes as well. Since 2000, the credit union has donated over $1.5 million to support Friends of the Library groups, which provide computers, books for teachers, and more. This year, it provided much-needed resources, taught over 70 classes at local area schools and underserved community groups, and awarded seven $2,000 college scholarships. The credit union also has a partnership with Earn to Learn, the largest matched scholarship program in the country.
Hughes Federal Credit Union is committed to an array of community service projects, further demonstrating our steadfast commitment to our community. Hughes is proud to be recognized for living up to the “People Helping People” philosophy, not for profit but for service.
