Credit Union of Denver Recognized with Mayor’s Award for Financial Education Efforts

Credit Union of Denver has received a 2026 Mayor’s Inspiration Award from the City of Lakewood, Colo., for its work helping local high school students build financial knowledge and confidence through the Bite of Reality program.

Announced Sept. 29, the Mayor’s Inspiration Awards recognize local businesses and community leaders making a meaningful difference through community engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness, diversity, and innovation.

Credit Union of Denver’s Bite of Reality program gives students an interactive opportunity to experience real-world financial decisions, including budgeting, managing expenses and weighing the trade-offs that come with everyday money choices. The program helps young people understand how to manage money, avoid debt and make informed financial decisions.

In recognizing the program, the city highlighted its lasting impact on the community, noting that financial education prepares young people to contribute to their families, schools, workplaces, and the broader community.

Credit Union of Denver provides Bite of Reality and other educational seminars in local district schools, investing in the financial well-being of the next generation and helping build a more financially informed community.
