Colorado Credit Union Honored With Regional Housing Champion Award from FHLBank Topeka

Colorado Credit Union and FHLBank Topeka

Colorado Credit Union, headquartered in Littleton, received the Colorado Regional Housing Champion Award at FHLBank Topeka’s regional meeting on Aug. 10.

Along with its foundational mission to provide liquidity to members to support communities, FHLBank Topeka also supports affordable housing and community development in its district of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. FHLBank set aside 15 percent of its income in 2026 to support these community-building efforts through its 639 member financial institutions.

Colorado Credit Union, an FHLBank member since 2004, has used three FHLBank Topeka housing and community development programs to support their members and community. First, they partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Colorado to apply for and receive a $1.2 million Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant to provide downpayment assistance for 60 households.

They also used TurnKey and the Mortgage Rate Reduction Product (MRRP) to make homeownership more affordable in the communities they serve. Through TurnKey, they provided $50,000 in downpayment and closing cost assistance grants. Through MRRP, they helped three households reduce their mortgage rate, making their payments more affordable by $255 per month or more than $275,000 over the life of the loans.

“Federal Home Loan Bank community development programs provide innovative solutions to help address housing affordability challenges,” said Greg Hamilton, Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer at Colorado Credit Union. “Through these partnerships, more families have been able to achieve homeownership despite today’s high interest rates and housing costs. We’re honored to receive this award and proud to be part of the solution.”

As a part of the award, Colorado Credit Union selected a nonprofit to receive a $1,000 donation in their honor. They chose TGTHR, a nonprofit that works with young people aged 12 to 24 years old impacted by homelessness and housing insecurity in Boulder and Denver.

As the Colorado Regional Housing Champion, Colorado Credit Union will be represented with the other three state winners in FHLBank Topeka’s district at the 2027 Annual Member Conference in April. One overall champion will be selected through a vote over LinkedIn.
