NCUA Opens $13 Million CDRLF Loan Opportunity

Low-income-designated credit unions may apply for loans of up to $500,000 at a 1.5% interest rate.

The National Credit Union Administration has made more than $13 million available through the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund (CDRLF) for low-income-designated credit unions. The loans carry terms of up to five years and can support growth, modernization, member service, and community development efforts.

Why It Matters

The program offers below-market financing at a time when funding costs remain a concern. Eligible credit unions can use the loans for new products or services, loan programs, partnerships, office space, equipment, or operational needs.

During last month’s GoWest Hike the Hill, GoWest credit union leaders also advocated for better communication from NCUA about opportunities like this so credit unions can more easily understand and access available resources.

Eligibility

Applicants must have a low-income designation and an active System for Award Management registration. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis through NCUA’s grant and loan management system.

Takeaways
  • Assess whether a CDRLF loan supports a current strategic or member-impact priority.
  • Confirm low-income designation and SAM registration status before applying.
  • Tie potential projects to clear member or community outcomes.
  • Evaluate the opportunity soon, as funding is limited.
Next Step

Credit unions should review the program guidelines, confirm eligibility, and contact NCUA’s Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion at [email protected] with questions.
