Meet the YP Leads Mentors Shaping the Next Generation of Credit Union Leaders
Posted by Alyse Knudsen on June 17, 2026
YP Leads at MAXX continues to be a defining part of GoWest’s annual credit union experience — driven by the mentors who invest their time, perspective, and leadership in the next generation of professionals. Each year, the program grows stronger, and this year’s mentor group is no exception. Several have experienced the program firsthand as former YP Leads, while others bring years of leadership experience and a passion for developing emerging professionals.
“Mentorship is at the heart of the YP Leads experience,” said Lexy Strong, Director of Credit Union Communities for GoWest. “MAXX is an incredible opportunity to learn and build connections, but the real impact happens when those relationships continue long after the conference ends. Our mentors help YP Leads navigate challenges, build confidence, and see what’s possible in their own leadership journey.”
Applications for YP Leads close Friday, June 19. There’s still time to apply.
As part of the program, YP Leads receive complimentary registration to MAXX, where they’ll attend sessions, connect with peers, and participate in a dedicated orientation with GoWest staff, including an inspiring keynote speaker. The experience extends beyond the event, with each participant engaging in a yearlong mentorship designed collaboratively during their time at MAXX.
Meet This Year’s Mentors
Cesar Chavez, Manager of Internal Support, Rogue Credit Union
“I’m excited and honored for the opportunity to learn from the YP Leads just as much as I’m excited to mentor them. The YP Leads program played a huge role in growing my passion for credit unions and exposing me to the bigger picture of our Movement and the impact we can make. I want to give back to a program that had such a meaningful impact on me personally and professionally. I hope mentees leave the experience feeling more confident, connected to the Credit Union Movement, and excited about their own leadership journey!”
Eleanor Johnson, Vendor and Resilience Officer, CapEd Credit Union
“I am so excited to come back to MAXX as a YP Mentor this year! My year as a YP was transformative. I discovered a passion for credit unions and networking that I’d never tapped into before, and my mentor played a big role in that. I can’t wait to pay it forward to this group of YPs!”
Ryan O’Connor, VP, Marketing & Communications, Credit Union West
“The best part of MAXX is the opportunity to learn from one another. Mentoring allows me to share perspective from my own journey while helping emerging leaders in the GoWest region build confidence and community within the Movement.”
Emmie Phillips, Branch Manager, StagePoint Federal Credit Union
“I’m excited to see — and be part of — the journey this year’s YP Leads are about to embark on. We grow the most when we step outside of our comfort zones, and it’s a lot less daunting when we can do it alongside a friend. My hope is to create a space that encourages curiosity, learning, and collaboration — one that helps us all push those boundaries even further. I look forward to building meaningful connections and cheering each other on along the way!”
Tina Wickes, VP, Lending, Columbine Federal Credit Union
“I am honored to be selected as a Young Professional Mentor. Having previously served as a YP Lead, it’s especially meaningful to now have the opportunity to mentor and support the next group of young professionals as they grow in their careers and leadership journeys.”
