Advocacy Engagement at High Levels in Oregon

Throughout the last several months, Advocates in Oregon have been connecting with elected officials throughout their communities.

From grand openings, to meetings and events, to PAC check presentations, Oregon advocates are active, engaged, and sharing the credit union difference! Here are just a few examples of the work happening in Oregon:

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek recently attended OnPoint’s Portland grand opening. OnPoint Community Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its new downtown Portland branch, expanding services for consumer, small business, commercial, and nonprofit members. Governor Tina Kotek and Mayor Keith Wilson offered remarks, highlighting the impact of the investment and the importance of strong partnerships in supporting Portland’s Central City.

Point West Credit Union hosted State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner during their conference site visit, which highlighted Point West Credit Union’s focus on inclusion, community, and equity. Point West also has a strong public commitment to serving underserved communities and holds Juntos Avanzamos and CDFI designations.

Inclusiv highlighted Point West’s work with Portland Community Land Trusts to make housing more affordable, along with the MESO Makers Market featuring local entrepreneurs at Vanport Square. The site-visit materials also frame the stop as a look at Point West’s broader “place-based impact and equity” work.

One specific example tied to Point West’s public mission is its lending and services for immigrants and Hispanic community members, plus its focus on financial empowerment and helping people who have been turned down elsewhere.

Mid Oregon Credit Union has been meeting with several of their local legislators including State Senators Anthony Broadman and Mike McLane along with Rep. Jason Kropf.

Over the course of a few days, Laura Hansen of Rogue Credit Union met with legislators across Southern Oregon to highlight the credit union difference. Meanwhile, credit unions across the state have also been hosting informal coffee meetings with lawmakers to strengthen those relationships and continue the conversation. Congratulations on your exceptional engagement over the past few months.  As we enter the summer months, more opportunity will be their to engage with legislators in your own communities!
